In 1897, the first "Swiss Army Knife" from Victorinox was manufactured in the small village of Ibach in Switzerland. Karl Elsener, who founded the company, gradually wanted to create more jobs in the sparsely industrialized parts of Switzerland and counteract emigration and unemployment. He then went from artisanal processing to industrial production and at that time it took adventure and enormous will to accomplish this. Today, the family-owned company Victorinox offers 950 jobs and every day more than 34,000 multi-tools leave the factory. 90% of these are exported to over 100 countries worldwide. Victorinox has become known for precision, quality, functionality and versatility and their multi-tool today serves as an ambassador for the entire country of Switzerland. In other words, the Victorinox "Swiss Army Knife" has become an unparalleled success around the world and even in space since it became part of the standard equipment on the space shuttle Crew. The knife has also been a great success on expeditions in the North Pole, on the one on Mount Everest, and in the tropical rainforests of the Amazon time and time again, it has been a lifesaver in extremely dangerous situations.
