For hundreds of years, so-called Valenki shoes were worn by the Russian Empire. Valenki shoes were handmade boots in wool felt material and they were so expensive in the 19th century that an ordinary family could only afford a pair and had to take turns wearing them. Old photos show how soldiers wore these Valenki shoes at the front during the Napoleonic Wars, which reinforced the myth that Western European leather boots were too bad for the cold Russian winter. The felt boots were also said to have a protective effect against flu and rheumatism. The ZDAR boot is a modern re-creation of the classic Russian boot. It combines the natural properties of wool with modern comfort. The quality of the raw material is of great importance and therefore only the very best wool is used in the production. The wool blanket is highly compressed wool, handled with the highest quality and environmental requirements. It is made of traditional machines and of 100% lambswool. The footbed is softly padded and covered in natural leather which provides superb comfort. The ribbed outsole is reinforced with a layer of hemp material that also provides a good grip. All ZDAR boots are made of the finest wool, whose unique properties combine breathability with water resistance so that the feet are kept warm even in the lowest temperatures.
